Mr. Michelsen graduated from the University of Richmond and did graduate work in experimental psychology at Villanova University. He is a resident of the Franklin Manor community and has been active in Anne Arundel County environmental issues for the past decade. He was previously employed as a Project Manager by Underwood and Associates, an environmental consulting firm. In this role he managed over $1 million in design/construction project contracts. Mr. Michelsen also has previous experience with the Arlington Echo Outdoor Education Center as well as working with other non-profit organizations including the Alliance for Sustainable Communities and the South Arundel Citizens for Responsible Development. He recently served as a member of the County’s Special Advisory Committee, a citizens group appointed to review the General Development Plan documents. Erik grew up on the Severn River at a time when its sub-aquatic vegetation was virtually non-existent, and the River was approaching full build-out. Having also spent time living near Spa Creek and the South River, he has seen firsthand the results of neglect and abuse on Anne Arundel County's waterways. In 2003, he led a group of volunteers who won the Partnership Award from the City of Annapolis for their work during GreenScape. He lives on Deep Cove Creek in Churchton with his wife, daughter, and son.
