Restoration Navigation
|
Originally installed in 2006 with the help of Federation volunteers and members of the Edgewater Beach community, this living shoreline project near the mouth of Beard's Creek incorporates multiple offshore breakwaters as well as beach replenishment and the establishment of native vegetation, such as Spartina alterniflora and Spartina patens.
Volunteers plant the shoreline with native vegetation and reduce the slope of the bank with sand fill.
Volunteers move huge stone rip-rap into place to form the structural elements of the restoration project such as the jetties and offshore breakwaters.
The site shortly after planting and completion of the project.
