A TURTLEY AWESOME PROJECT

WHEN: End of May, 2017

WHERE: Annapolis Harbour Center

THE GREAT TURTLE LIFT OF 2017

Turtley Awesome!

This summer, the Anne Arundel County Watershed Protection and Restoration Program will make major improvements to the pond at the Annapolis Harbor Center. The project is replacing an older style storm-water pond with a new wetland pond that will filter and denitrify the water before it enters the South River. The South River Federation has partnered with the Terrapin Institute in order to safely capture and transfer the turtles to a new area temporarily, so they will not be harmed during construction.

Once the new wetland pond is complete, the South River Federation will recapture all of the turtles and return them to their new and improved home. This restoration project will provide improved conditions and a better place for the turtles when they return. The wetland will be more suitable for the turtles’ needs and will allow the population to thrive. In addition, to providing the turtles with a better home, the new pond will help reduce the amount of sediment, nutrients and heavy metals that enter Church Creek, the South River’s most polluted creek. If you would like to volunteer this May to help capture, measure and release the turtles, please contact Jaclyn Fisher at This email address is being protected from spambots.  BE A FORCE FOR THE GREENER GOOD WITH SOUTH RIVER FEDERATION ON JUNE 12 AND 13!

We are proud to announce that South River Federation is a lead team partner of the GreenGive, a new 24-hour online fundraising and engagement-building initiative to expand participation in 11 Anne Arundel County waterway and environmental organizations. This is the first time multiple environmental non-profits have joined together to host this type of event.

 WHAT IS GREEN GIVE?

GreenGive is a day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals like you to provide the critical funds needed to protect our waters and land. Anne Arundel County's environmental groups are invested in collaboration.  We know that working together will strengthen or effectiveness and broaden our impact. Local and state agencies, working arm-in-arm with citizen scientists and community partners, are increasingly responsible for protecting our waters and lands.  We must help build capacity for local green groups to meet this growing demand.

DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT!  WE HAVE A MATCHING GRANT!

Every donation of $100 or more during the GreenGive will be matched dollar for dollar by a generous local family foundation up to $10,000 per organization.  That is a $110,000 match that DOUBLES the impact of your gift - DOUBLES the impact of each organization to be a force for clean water and lands in Anne Arundel County.
